包含近400種結紅色或黑色漿果的植物物種，包括常見的用於裝飾聖誕節的觀賞用冬青樹（Christmas hollies）。木材紋路細緻均勻。可保護、遮蔽鳥類、其他動物與昆蟲免於掠食者侵擾，果實亦為這些生物所食用；其漿果對於人類而言具輕微毒性。為冬青科中唯一現存的屬。

英文....	Genus containing around 400 species of red- or black-berried plants, including the popular Christmas hollies grown for ornamentation. Timber from the holly has a fine uniform texture. The trees provide shelter, protection from predators, and food for birds, other animals, and insects; the berries are mildly poisonous to humans. Ilex is the only living genus in the family Aquifoliaceae.
