高大的喬木物種，原生於南美洲，由人引入栽植於西印度群島。其樹脂可用於製作咳嗽糖漿、治療氣喘、製作香水、作為調味料、添加於油漆中，以及作為治療皮膚起疹的藥物，但事實上有許多人會因為接觸該成份而導致皮膚發炎。
