這類型的電影和真實電影（cinéma vérité）有許多共同的特色，但缺乏真實電影風格中的平順自然的典型攝影機運鏡方式。攝影機的存在反而並非那麼受到重視，而運用固定三角架的長鏡頭影片倒是更為典型。
