天然紅色染料，以熱水萃取法從數種蘇木屬熱帶喬木取得。最早從西元12世紀開始，歐洲便利用巴西蘇木染布。其主要著色劑為巴西木素，一種羥基蒽醌。染成的顏色不耐光，加熱時會褪色。

英文....	A natural red dye produced from the hot water extraction of any of several tropical trees of the Caesalpinia genus. Brazilwood was used to dye textiles as early as the 12th century in Europe. Its principal colorant is brasilin, a hydroxyanthraquinone. The color is not lightfast and fades when heated.
