主要提供神學和宗教史教育的機構，以訓練學生成為教士、牧師或神職人員為目標，但並非所有畢業生皆需成為神職人員；通常由教會或其他宗教組織贊助或管轄。至於設有專門訓練拉比的教育機構的學校建築，則稱「拉比神學院」（rabbinical seminaries）。
