町人 chōnin
範圍註 ：
居住於城市地區的工匠或商人階級；他們與日本在江戶時期(1615-1868)大多數的藝術、音樂、文學以及戲劇產物有所關聯。此一階級不僅包括了富有的金融家與批發商，也包含了窮困的工匠、商販以及零工。此詞彙在英文通常翻譯為townspeople或townsmen(鎮民)。
