英文....	Straight-edged strips or cylinders of medium size, usually of wood, metal, plastic, or ivory and having demarcations to indicate units of measurement, used for measuring and for guiding a pen, pencil, or other marking-instrument in forming straight lines upon paper or another material. They are used in geometry, drafting, drawing, carpentry, building, interior design, crafts, and other disciplines. For very long bars or strips of wood or metal having straight and true edges and used for a variety of purposes, including cutting or establishing the evenness of surfaces, use "straightedges."
荷蘭語....	Stroken, staven of latten van hout, metaal, plastic of een ander bruikbaar materiaal die zijn voorzien van een schaalverdeling en die zijn bedoeld voor het meten of het afzetten van lineaire maten, meestal met rechte zijden en vooral gebruikt in timmerwerk, de bouw en andere beroepen waar gegevens over afmetingen noodzakelijk zijn. Gebruik 'linialen (geleidingsgereedschap)' voor platte stroken, meestal zonder schaalverdeling, die vooral zijn bedoeld als hulpgereedschappen bij het trekken van rechte of gebogen lijnen. Wordt gebruikt voor handgereedschap, in het algemeen zonder schaalverdeling om te meten, die meestal bestaan uit platte stroken hout, plastic of metaal. Ze worden voornamelijk gebruikt als geleidend werktuig als er rechte of gebogen lijnen worden getekend. Gebruik 'meetlatten (meettoestellen)' voor soortgelijke voorwerpen met schaalverdeling die helpen met het meten of indelen van lineaire aspecten en niet om te belijnen. Gebruik 'richtlinialen' voor vaak lange latten of repen van hout of metaal die rechte kanten hebben en worden gebruikt voor verschillende doeleinden, bijvoorbeeld om nauwkeurig rechte lijnen te snijden of om de gelijkmatigheid van oppervlakten te controleren.
