英文.... | As with the Egyptian lotus, Indian lotus motifs are also ancient and seen in Hindu iconography, but they gained widespread use in Buddhist iconography. The Indian motifs are based on the species of aquatic plant Nelumbo nucifera, having a large bright pink, white, or blue flower, in art seen in profile, in rosettes, and as medallions. Examples of use in Indic culture include as a pedestal to support figures of deities, as a molding, or as a capital. It is associated with the qualities of transcendence and grace, and appears as an emblem of Vishnu. Color variations impart various meanings. |
荷蘭語.... | Te gebruiken voor een motief dat is afgeleid van de lotus, gebruikt in de Indiase cultuur als voetstuk voor figuren of godheden, of als decoratie. Bij toepassing als kapiteel ondersteunt de padma de Zuid-Indiase phalaka. De padma wordt in verband gebracht met eigenschappen als transcendentie en bevalligheid, en verschijnt als embleem van Visjnoe. De variaties in kleur duiden op verschillen in de betekenis. |
