硼酸 boric acid
範圍註 ：
泛指任何含有硼及氧的酸。具體來說，即為可溶於水及乙醇的白色或無色固體複合物H3BO3。硼酸自然存在於火山口蒸汽的冷凝物中；商業用途上，將硼酸鹽礦物和硫酸加以混合，經過再結晶作用，便可得到硼酸。可用於製造玻璃、鈾料、琺瑯、皮革、紙、黏合劑和炸藥。在美國更廣泛用於洗潔劑。由於熔化的硼酸能溶解其他金屬氧化物，因此也可用作銅銲和焊接時的助熔劑。其溫和的抗菌性，也適用於製藥業以及食物防腐劑。

| 英文.... | Generally, any of a number of acids containing boron and oxygen. Specifically, it refers to the compound H3BO3, a white or colorless solid that is soluble in water and ethanol. It occurs naturally in the condensate from volcanic steam vents; commercially, it is made by treating borate minerals with sulphuric acid followed by recrystalization. It is used in the manufacture of glass, glazes and enamels, leather, paper, adhesives, and explosives. It is widely used (particularly in the USA) in detergents, and because of the ability of fused boric acid to dissolve other metal oxides, it is used as a flux in brazing and welding. Because of its mild antiseptic properties, it is used in the pharmaceutical industry and as a food preservative. |

Boorzuur komt in natuurlijke vorm voor in het condensaat van vulkanische fumarolen; boorzuur wordt commercieel vervaardigd door behandeling van boraatmineralen met zwavelzuur, gevolgd door herkristallisatie. Het wordt toegepast bij de fabricage van glas, glazuur- en emailleerlagen, leer, papier, kleefmiddelen en springstoffen. Het wordt algemeen gebruikt (met name in de Verenigde Staten) in reinigingsmiddelen; aangezien gefuseerd boorzuur andere metaaloxiden kan oplossen, wordt het ook toegepast als verdunningsmiddel bij het solderen en lassen.
