英文....	The twisted strands of fibrous material to which the sections of a book are sewn. Distinguished from "thongs (binding components)" which are the narrow strips of rawhide or processed animal skin used for the same purpose before the latter part of the 16th century, and from "tapes (binding components)" which are flat strips of closely woven cloth that perform the same function. Also distinguished from "bands (binding components)" which are the raised ridges across the spine of a bound book that indicate the location of the cords beneath the covering material.
荷蘭語....	De gedraaide strengen vezelig materiaal waarop de katernen van een boek zijn genaaid. Te onderscheiden van 'naairiemen'; dit zijn smalle stroken ongelooide of bewerkte huid die voor hetzelfde doel gebruikt werden tot tegen het einde van de zestiende eeuw. Ook te onderscheiden van 'naaibanden'; dit zijn smalle stroken dicht geweven stof die voor hetzelfde doel geschikt zijn. Tevens onderscheiden van 'ribben (boekbandonderdelen)'; dit zijn de opstaande randen over de rug van een boek, die de plaats aangeven van de koorden onder de omslag.
