英文....	Short-necked, fretless lutelike chordophones of the Arab world, the direct ancestors of European lutes, strung in double courses and played with a plectrum. The large soundbox is built of ribs of lightweight wood with a strongly rounded back and flat belly, one large or two or three small sound holes, a bridge on the lower part of the belly, and a piece of fishskin, leather, or shell above the bridge to protect the belly from the strokes of the plectrum.

Snaarinstrumenten met een klankkast van lichte, houten zijbanden, sterk bollend achterblad, een plat bovenblad met 1 grote, 2 of 3 kleine klankgaten, kam op het onderste gedeelte van het bovenblad, met een stuk vissen- of ander leer, of met een schelp, erboven, om het bovenblad te beschermen tegen beschadiging door het plectrum, korte hals zonder frets, dubbele snarenkoren; bespeeld met een plectrum; Arabische wereld.
西班牙語....	Cordófonos del mundo árabe tipo laúd de mástil corto, sin trastes, antecesores directos de los laúdes europeos, con encordado doble y tocados con un plectro. La gran caja de resonancia se construye de costillas de madera liviana con un dorso marcadamente abombado y un vientre plano, una gran abertura de sonido o dos o tres pequeñas aberturas, un puente en la sección inferior del vientre, y un trozo de piel de pescado, cuero o concha encima del puente para proteger el vientre de los golpes del plectro.
