伊斯蘭教中較小的分支，與較普及的遜尼派有所區別。從早期伊斯蘭教歷史中，以支持穆罕默德之婿阿里(回教體系第四位卡里發)之統治政治派系的角色興起。什葉派提倡世襲統治；只有阿里的後代可以統治回教世界。大部分信徒居住於敘利亞、黎巴嫩、東非、印度及巴基斯坦，且大多與好戰的伊斯蘭基本教義派有關。

英文....	Refers to the minority sect of Islam, distinguished from the more popular Sunni branch. It emerged in early Islamic history as a political faction that supported the rule of Ali, son-in-law of Muhammad and fourth caliph of the Muslim community. This branch of Islam advocates the idea of rule in the Muslim world based on lineage; only descendants of Ali could rule. The majority of adherents to this branch of Islam reside in Syria, Lebanon, East Africa, India, and Pakistan, and are generally associated with militant Islamic fundamentalism.
荷蘭語....	Verwijst naar een minderheidsstroming van de islam, die zich onderscheidt van de populairdere soennitische stroming. Deze stroming ontstond in de vroege islamitische geschiedenis als politieke groepering die de heerschappij steunde van Ali, schoonzoon van Mohammed en vierde kalief van de moslimgemeenschap. Deze tak van de islam stelt dat de heerschappij over de moslimwereld is gebaseerd op afstamming; alleen nakomelingen van Ali kwamen in aanmerking voor het leiderschap. Het merendeel van de aanhangers van deze stroming van de islam bevindt zich in Syrië, Libanon, Oost-Afrika, India en Pakistan. 西班牙語....	Se refiere a la secta de la minoría del Islam, distinguida del rama más popular de Sunni. Emergió en la historia islámica temprana como una facción política que apoyó la regla de Ali, del yerno de Mahoma y del cuarto califa de la comunidad musulmana. Este rama del Islam aboga la idea de la regla en el mundo musulmán basado en el linaje; solamente los descendientes de Ali podrían gobernar. La mayoría de los adherentes de esta rama del Islam reside en Siria, Líbano, África del Este, la India, y Pakistán y se asocia generalmente al fundamentalismo islámico militante.
