使用摻入顏料的熔蠟作畫。在畫面或牆面維持一定溫度的狀況下，以筆刷或調色板為工具上色，再用熱源為表面加熱，使顏料蠟融入而永久嵌合於表面。此為古希臘人常用的繪畫技術。，其語源（Encaustic）來自希臘文，意為「燒入」。雖然在西元前8、9世紀時被棄用，但現代仍有人使用。。用於陶土裝飾此技術則稱為「熱蠟油畫釉燒」。

英文....	Technique of painting with pigments dispersed in molten wax. It is applied while warm to panels or murals with a brush or palette, and fixed by passing a heat source over the surface to fuse and permanently bond the paint. It is an ancient technique that was particularly popular in ancient Greece. The term derives from a Greek word meaning 'burnt in.' Although it fell into disuse in the 8th or 9th centuries C.E., there continue to be exponents of the technique today. For the technique of decorating clay, use "encaustic decoration."
荷蘭語....	Te gebruiken voor de schildertechniek met pigmenten die zijn opgelost in gesmolten was. Het wordt warm aangebracht op panelen of muren met een borstel of een spatel en gefixeerd door met een warmtebron over het oppervlak te gaan om de verf permanent te smelten en vast te zetten. Deze oude techniek was vooral populair in het oude Griekenland. De Engelse term is afgeleid van het Grieks en betekent 'ingebrand'. Hoewel de techniek in de 8ste en 9de eeuw in onbruik raakte, zijn er ook tegenwoordig nog exponenten ervan. Gebruik 'versieringen inbranden' voor de techniek van het versieren van klei.

Se aplica mientras que esta caliente a los paneles o a los murales con un cepillo o pincel, y es fijado pasando una fuente de calor sobre la superficie para fundir y enlazar permanentemente la pintura. Es una técnica antigua que era particularmente popular en Grecia antigua.
