明 Ming
範圍註 ：
指西元一三六八年至一六四四年間的中國朝代風格與時期。此時期國家安定，國勢鼎盛，中國文化復興，國族意識抬頭。此時期的風格發展主要來自宮廷贊助的藝術活動，大幅刺激高水準工藝的發展，然而在設計及技巧上則趨於保守。此時期主要的工藝有景泰藍瓷、搪瓷珐瑯、銅器、漆器、傢俱，以及玉、象牙、木質及瓷質的小型雕刻飾品。陶器方面，早期形式如青花瓷，在技巧及裝飾上都更加精緻。建築則揚棄原先對宋朝建築的嘗試，而採用傳統設計。繪畫方面，專業學者、藝術家和文人學士學派皆鼓勵發展獨立的個人風格。

| 英文.... | Refers to the period and styles associated with the Chinese dynasty dating from 1368 to 1644. It is characterized by being a period of stability, prosperity, and by a renewal of Chinese culture and national consciousness. Styles in this period developed largely from a system of court patronage of the arts that generally encouraged a high level of workmanship, but conservatism in design and technique. The major art produced during this period includes cloisonné, enamelware, bronzework, lacquerwork, furniture, and small ornamental carvings of jade, ivory, wood, and porcelain. In ceramics, earlier styles, including, blue-and-white wares, were refined in technique and decoration. In architecture, the earlier experiments of the Sung period were abandoned, in favor of more traditional designs, including the construction of the Forbidden City in Peking. In painting, schools of professional academics/artists and "literati" encouraged independent, personal styles. |

De periode kenmerkt zich door stabiliteit, voorspoed en een opleving van de Chinese cultuur en een nationaal bewustzijn. De stijlen in deze periode ontwikkelden zich voornamelijk vanuit een systeem waarbij de kunst onder bescherming van het hof stond. Een hoge mate van vakmanschap werd aangemoedigd, maar qua ontwerp en technieken overheerste conservatisme. De belangrijkste kunst die tijdens deze periode werd vervaardigd was cloisonné, email, bronswerk, lakwerk, meubels en klein ornamenteel snijwerk van jade, ivoor, hout en porselein. In de keramiek werden eerdere stijlen, waaronder wit en blauw servies, verfijnd qua techniek en versiering. In de architectuur zijn de vroegere experimenten uit de Sung-periode achtergelaten en verruild voor traditionelere ontwerpen, zoals de bouw van de Verboden Stad in Peking. In de schilderkunst moedigden scholen van professionele academici/kunstenaars en de geletterde intelligentsia de ontwikkeling van onafhankelijke, persoonlijke stijlen aan. |
