範圍註：

一種繪畫墨水，取由烏賊汁液製成的褐色顏料。烏賊是與章魚和魷魚品種相近的無脊椎動物，在防衛的情況下會使用其天然墨汁。為了製作繪畫墨水，要先抽出烏賊的墨囊，乾燥後溶於稀鹼，再經加工而成。最後得到的顏料呈化學惰性，顯色非常持久，主要用作繪畫墨水，也可應用至水彩。烏賊墨至少從古羅馬時期便啟用，自文藝復興起更成為非常流行的繪圖媒材；十八世紀後期及十九世紀時，更普遍取代了木煤褐色顏料成為水彩畫的媒材。

英文....	Artist's ink made from the brown pigment derived from the ink of cuttlefish, an invertebrate related to the octopus and squid. The cuttlefish uses the natural ink defensively. To make artist's ink, the animal's ink sac is extracted, dried, then dissolved in dilute alkali, and further processed. The resulting pigment is chemically inert and fairly permanent; it is used primarily as a drawing ink and to apply washes. Sepia ink has been used at least since ancient Roman times. It was particularly popular as a drawing medium from the Renaissance onwards, and in the late 18th and 19th centuries generally replaced bistre as a medium for making wash drawings.
荷蘭語....	Inkt die door kunstenaars wordt gebruikt, gemaakt van het bruine pigment dat wordt gewonnen uit de inkt van inktvissen, een weekdier dat is gerelateerd aan de octopus en de pijlinktvis. De inktvis gebruikt de natuurlijke inkt om zich te verdedigen. Om de inkt voor kunstenaars te maken wordt de inktzak uit het dier verwijderd, gedroogd en vervolgens opgelost in verdunde alkali en verder verwerkt. Het resulterende pigment is chemisch inactief en vrij permanent. Het wordt voornamelijk gebruikt als tekeninkt en om dunne lagen aan te brengen. Sepia-inkt wordt zeker al sinds de Romeinse tijd gebruikt. Vanaf de Renaissance was het vooral erg populair als tekenmateriaal. In de late 18de en 19de eeuw verving het bister als middel om gewassen tekeningen te maken.
