半固態之蠟質物，取自身覆毛皮的動物皮脂腺，尤其是羊屬的綿羊。羊毛脂是複雜的混合物，含有33種高分子量的醇類以及36種脂肪酸，也包括了膽固醇。羊毛脂獨特的性質之一，就是可吸收水分至含水量高達25-30％仍不會分離。由於羊毛脂易被皮膚所吸收，因此被使用於保養品、軟膏、皮革中作為潤滑劑，也可作為防鏽劑。在自然界中，羊毛脂的角色是保護羊隻的毛皮免受外在環境侵害，同時也有助於保持清潔，具有衛生上的功效。

英文....	A semisolid, waxy material extracted from sebaceous glands of wool-bearing animals, particularly sheep, genus Ovis. It is a complex mixture of 33 high molecular weight alcohols and 36 fatty acids, including cholesterol. One of the unique properties of lanolin is that it can incorporate up to 25-30% water without separation. Since it is readily absorbed by skin, lanolin is used as an emollient in cosmetics, ointments, leather, and as a rust preventative. Lanolin's role in nature is to protect wool and skin of the animal against the environment, also having a role in hygiene.
