一種精緻的紫色苯胺染料，為最早的合成染料之一。化學家威廉．珀金（William Henry Perkin）當時正在研究如何製造人造奎寧，卻注意到過程中的殘渣，將其製成首個苯胺染料（苯胺紫mauveine），有時稱為aniline（苯胺）purple（紫）。
