取自某些紫雲英屬灌木物種之分泌液，尤其是分布於伊朗、伊拉克、敘利亞與土耳其等國乾燥地區的黃蓍膠樹。黃耆膠使用的歷史可追溯至西元前的時代，用於織物上漿、印刷、粉蠟筆製作、皮革保存、家具擦亮，可作為乳化劑、懸浮劑以及增稠劑，醫療上可作為緩合劑（塗層）、製作藥丸用的黏合劑，也可用於食品加工。

英文....	An exudate from several species of shrubs of the genus Astragalus, especially Astragalus gummifer, found in the dry regions of Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Turkey. The use of gum tragacanth dates from pre-Christian times. It used for textile sizing, printing, pastel crayon production, leather curing, furniture polishes, as an emulsifying, suspending, and thickening agent, pharmaceutically as a demulcent (coating) and as a binding agent in pill manufacture, and in processed foods.
荷蘭語....	Een gom die wordt verkregen als een gedroogde afscheiding van verscheidene Aziatische of Oost-Europese planten; zwelt in water op tot een gelei. Wordt voornamelijk gebruikt als een emulgerend, suspenderend of verdikkend middel.
西班牙語....	Goma que se obtiene de la exudación seca de varias plantas asiáticas o de Europa Oriental. En agua, aumenta de tamaño para convertirse en gel. Se utiliza principalmente como agente emulisificante, suspensor o espesante.
