利用風力的設備；通常亦指用以支撐或安置此設備的建築物或結構物。此設備的特色為藉一旋轉軸來運作，其上裝設傾斜翼板，風吹時會帶動翼板旋轉以產生能量。風車傳統上多設於地勢平坦地區，用以運轉磨坊，以碾磨穀物、抽水、或產生電力。較為古老且最具特色的歐洲風車磨坊具有圓錐形的磨坊主屋，上面的圓頂或頂蓋支撐著四片翼板。較近代的美國風車磨坊則是在樑木架構上安裝多片組合後形似圓盤的翼板，主要用以抽水或鋸木。

翼板

英文....	Refers to a device for tapping the energy of the wind; it typically also refers to the building or structure supporting or housing the device. Characteristically, the device operates by means of a rotating shaft on which sails are mounted or placed at an angle so that the force of wind against them causes rotation, which in turn produced energy. Windmills were traditionally used chiefly in flat districts for operating a mill to grind grain, for pumping water, or for creating electricity. The older and most characteristic European form consists of a conical mill-house with a dome or cap supporting four sails. The more modern American form consists of a disk of sails mounted on a framework of girders, and is used chiefly for pumping or sawing.
荷蘭語....	Verwijst naar een mechanisme voor het effectief benutten van windenergie; verwijst meestal ook naar het gebouw waarin het mechanisme is ondergebracht of de structuur die het mechanisme draagt. Kenmerkend voor het mechanisme is de roterende as waarop wieken zijn aangebracht, al dan niet in een hoek, waarbij de windkracht de wieken tot draaien brengt om aldus energie op te wekken. Van oudsher stonden windmolens meestal in vlakke gebieden en dienden ze voor het malen van graan, het pompen van water of het opwekken van elektriciteit. De oudere, meest karakteristieke vormen zoals die in Europa voorkomen, bestaan uit een kegelvormig molengebouw met woongedeelte met daarop een kap die vier wieken draagt. De moderne Amerikaanse vorm bestaat uit een schijf met wieken op een raamwerk van onderslagen, en wordt meestal gebruikt om een pomp of zaag aan te drijven.
