設有扶欄而沒有屋頂的平台，裝設於美式房屋的屋頂上方用以觀景(尤其是海景)。若是屋頂上遮蓋於內的觀景處，則稱之為「瞭望台」。通常帶有裝飾的屋頂結構，則稱之為「圓頂」。

英文....	Railed, unroofed platforms surmounting the roofs of American houses offering a view, especially of the sea; for rooftop outlooks that are enclosed, use "belvederes"; for rooftop structures that are usually ornamental, use "cupolas."
荷蘭語....	Wordt gebruikt voor dakloze plateaus met railing bovenop de daken van Amerikaanse huizen, bedoeld om een uitzicht te bieden, vooral over zee. Voor gesloten uitkijkposten op daken wordt 'belvédères ' gebruikt; voor meestal ornamentele dak-bouwwerken wordt 'koepels' gebruikt.
