縣(郡) counties

指伯爵的地產或領地。在現代的用法中，郡通常用來表示為了行政、司法以及政治目的而在一地區劃分之特定區域。在英國，郡以多種法定方法來定義，被視為國家中最重要的分區單位。在美國，郡是在州之下、城市之上的政治與行政劃分區域；少數州稱這類劃分區域為「區」或「教區」，而非「郡」。
