喬木的物種，分布於美國東部，由緬因州往南至墨西哥灣沿岸、往西至奧克拉荷馬州的潮溼地區。其木材質輕而軟，但相當堅韌。黑紫樹在秋天時葉子呈鮮豔的緋紅色，有時被栽種為景觀植物。其樹皮染劑具有良好的水洗耐受性，以及相當程度的光耐受性。

黑紫樹(木材)

英文....	Species of tree found in moist areas of the eastern U.S. from Maine south to the Gulf Coast and westward to Oklahoma. Its wood is light and soft, but tough. The black gum is sometimes grown as an ornamental, prized for brilliant scarlet autumnal foliage. The bark dye has good washfastness and fair lightfastness.
