屬名，包含8種小型針葉樹或灌木，屬於紫杉科，遍佈於北半球。它們的生長速度相對而言較為緩慢，但樹齡長，高度可達1至40公尺高，有著直徑可達4公尺的樹幹。紫杉擁有茂密、深綠的樹葉，樹枝直立或向外擴展，由扁平、線狀的樹葉緊密覆蓋。包括粗榧（plum-yew）、智利杉（Prince Albert yew）以及榧樹（stinking yew）在內的其他樹木皆以「yew）為名，但它們並不是真正的紫杉屬紫杉。

Genus containing 8 species of small coniferous trees or shrubs in the family Taxaceae, distributed throughout the Northern Hemisphere. They are relatively slow growing, long-lived, and reach heights of 1-40 m, with trunk diameters of up to 4 m. Yews have rich, dark-green foliage with branches that are erect or spreading, closely covered with flattened, linear leaves. Other trees are called "yew," but are not true yews of this genus, including the plum-yew, Prince Albert yew, and stinking yew.
