護手 tsuba
範圍註 ：
日本刀的平板防護裝置，分隔刀刃與刀柄。圓形或風箏形為其常見造型，中間有開孔，可容納刀刃的柄舌，有時周圍有較小的穿孔。其尺寸因刀刃的長度而異，小至8公分，大至15公分。護手雖為劍的功能性組件，但約於15世紀末時，它也自然而然演變成一種藝術形式，且於19世紀達到高峰。其材質多樣，舉凡鐵、黃銅與鋼，以至金、銀，也有罕見的象牙或木頭製品。

| 英文.... | Plate guards of a Japanese sword that separate the blade from the handle. Typically, tsuba are round or kite- shaped, having a central opening for the tang of the blade and occasionally surrounded by a smaller perforations. They vary in size from about 8 to 15 centimeters, depending on the length of the blade. While tsuba were a functional part of the sword, they also evolved into an art form in their own right around the late 15th century and peaking in the 19th century. Materials can range from iron, brass, and steel to gold and silver, and rare ones of ivory or wood. |
