用於通稱某個化石樹脂大型類別中所有項目。此種樹脂出現在褐煤、泥炭等沉積礦床中。這些樹脂外表近似琥珀（succinite），但琥珀酸的含量較後者為少或幾乎沒有。目前所確認的琥珀種類約有四十種，可大致分為兩大類：含有琥珀酸的琥珀類，以及僅含有少量或不具琥珀酸的樹脂石類。

General term for any of a large group of fossil resins occurring in deposits of brown lignite, peat, etc. These resins resemble succinite in appearance, but contain little or no succinic acid. Around 40 varieties of amber are recognized, divided into two main groups: those containing succinic acid make up the succinite group and those having little or no succinic acid belong to the retinite group.
