屬裸子植物，亦即種子沒有蒴果包覆的植物；銀杏門植物為高大的落葉喬木，分枝多，中柱發育良好，且具獨特的扇狀葉片。銀杏在中生代(Mesozoic)時期生長繁盛，現今則僅存一種銀杏(Ginkgo biloba)。
