荷爾蒙 hormone
範圍註 ：
許多作為化學物質傳遞者的有機化合物中任何一種。由腺或器官分泌進動物體液，尤其是血液，藉由腺或器官運至此有機體的另一部位，激發或調節特定功能，如生長、代謝、繁殖，以及各器官之運作。此詞也指由植物或合成方式製成的類似化合物。此詞於西元1905時以希臘文的「刺激物（horman）」得名，意為「啟動」。

| 英文.... | Any of numerous organic compounds that serve as chemical messengers. They are secreted by a gland or organ into the body fluids of an animal, particularly the bloodstream, by a gland or organ, are transported to another part of the organism, and trigger or regulate particular functions such as growth, metabolism, reproduction, and the functioning of various organs. The term may also refer to similar compounds produced by plants or produced synthetically. The term was coined in 1905 from the Greek "horman," meaning "to set in motion." |
| 荷蘭語.... | Een van de talrijke organische verbindingen die als chemische boodschapper fungeren. Hormonen worden via een klier of orgaan uitgescheiden in de lichaamsvloeistoffen van dieren, in het bijzonder de bloedbaan, worden vervolgens naar een ander deel van het organisme getransporteerd en initiëren of reguleren daar specifieke functies, zoals de groei, de stofwisseling, de voortplanting en de werking van diverse organen. De term kan ook verwijzen naar soortgelijke verbindingen die door planten worden geproduceerd of kunstmatig worden vervaardigd. De term werd in 1905 bedacht en is afgeleid van het Griekse 'horman', dat 'in werking stellen' betekent. |
