海馬屬(屬) Hippocampus(genus)
範圍註 ：
含三十二種小型海生魚類的屬；身軀由連續的環狀保護層所環繞，單一背鰭上有軟刺，身體前彎，尾巴可抓握，頭部酷似馬頭，與身體形成一角度。頭部有一長長的管狀吻部，口小，眼睛能夠獨立轉動。海馬不善游泳，牠們生活於沿海的海藻植物區，藉著尾巴依附於植物上。游泳的時候挺直身軀，以鰭向前游動，並藉由調節魚鰾內的空氣量，使身體上升或下降。海馬以口吸入捕食有機生物。由雄性負責孵卵產子。

| 英文.... | Members of a genus containing 32 species of small marine fishes with consecutive rings of body armor, a single, soft-rayed dorsal fin, forward-curled, prehensile tail, and head resembling a horse head and set at an angle to their bodies. The head has a long, tubular snout, small mouth, and eyes that can move independently of one another. Sea horses are weak swimmers that typically live along the shore among seaweed and other plants to which they cling by their tails. When swimming, they maintain an upright position, propelling themselves with their fins, and rising or sinking by altering the volume of gas within their swim bladders. They catch and eat small organisms by sucking them into their mouths. The male incubates the eggs. |
