紅毛竊蠹 (種) Xestobium rufovillosum(species)
範圍註 ：
一種蛀木甲蟲，居住於木造結構椽內。紅毛竊蠹製造出的噪音令其獲得報死蟲的俗稱；為了吸引配偶，報死蟲會在老舊家具與樹木鑽出隧道，並用頭或大顎碰撞隧道側邊，發出一種輕敲或滴答聲。在寧靜、無法入眠的夜晚，陪在垂死親友旁的看護人，便視其為死亡的預兆。

| 英文.... | Members of a species of woodboring beetle that may live in rafters of wooden structures. The common name derives from the noise made by the beetle: to attract mates, it makes a tapping or ticking sound by bumping its head or jaws against the sides of the tunnels it bores in old furniture and wood, which was heard by those sitting up with dying people on quiet, sleepless nights, thus believed to forecast or accompany an approaching death. |
