指隸屬於珊瑚蟲綱的任一無脊椎海洋有機體；其種類超過一千三百種，分屬於數個屬。特色為石頭、牛角或皮革般堅硬的內骨骼或外骨骼。大多數的珊瑚蟲會以骨骼相互結合，形成大型的集群，牠們的觸手可向外伸展，上面具有刺細胞，可用來捕食小魚與浮游生物。行有性繁殖或出芽繁殖。某些種類的珊瑚蟲所製造的碳酸鈣骨骼，則稱為「珊瑚（動物性材料）」。

General term referring to any of over 1,300 species of invertebrate marine organisms of several genuses of the class Anthozoa (phylum Cnidaria) that are characterized by internal or external skeletons that have a stonelike, horny, or leathery consistency. In most species, the skeletons are joined together in massive colonies; they feed on small fish and invertebrate plankton using stinging cells on outstretched tentacles, and reproduce both sexually or by budding. For the calcium carbonate skeletal material produced by some species, use "coral (material)."
