靠耕作土地維生，為小地主或受僱勞工的自由業者。由耕農所組成的社會階層，稱為「農民階級」(peasantry)。若指封建制度下從事勞役，為地主提供服務，且隸屬於其地主土地的耕農，則為「農奴」(serfs)。

英文....	Free people who support themselves by tilling the soil, either as small landholders or hired laborers. For the social class comprised of these people, use "peasantry." For those in a condition of servitude under feudalism, owing services to a lord and commonly attached to the lord's land, use "serfs."
荷蘭語....	Te gebruiken voor vrije mensen die zichzelf onderhouden door de grond te bebouwen, als kleine landbezitter of als knecht. Gebruik 'boerenstand' voor de sociale klasse die deze mensen vormen. Gebruik 'lijfeigenen' voor personen die in het leenstelsel, diensten verschuldigd zijn aan een edelman en vaak zijn verbonden aan diens land.
西班牙語....	Úsese para gente libre que se sustentan ellos mismos por el labrado de la tierra, tanto como pequeños terratenientes o jornaleros contratados. Para la clase social compuesta por esta gente, use "campesinado". Para aquellos en condición de vasallaje, bajo el feudalismo, que se debe a servicios de un señor y comunmente unido a la tierra del señor, use "siervo".
