取自瓊麻葉片的纖維，自前哥倫比亞時期便已被使用，據悉阿茲特克人也用這種纖維製造衣物。從1930年代後期開始，瓊麻在中、南美洲以及非洲均有商業上的栽種。瓊麻是呈米色、材質強韌硬挺的纖維，通常利用直接染料或酸性染料染成明亮的顏色。瓊麻用於製作纜索、繩索、粗布袋、刷子、裝飾襯墊、小地毯、手提包、帽子、鏢靶以及紙張。

Fiber derived from leaves of the species Agave sisalana. The fiber has been used since pre-Columbian times; the Aztecs are known to have made clothing from it. From the late 1930s sisal has been cultivated commercially in Central and South America as well as in Africa. It is a strong, stiff fiber with a pale cream color. Sisal is typically dyed bright colors with direct or acid dyes. Sisal is used for cordage, ropes, sacks, brushes, upholstery padding, rugs, matting, handbags, hats, dartboards, and in papermaking.
