一種天然有機的著色劑，提取自任一茜草屬的數種植物，略帶紅色。茜草色澱自古代的印度、波斯及埃及就被用作將紡織品染色的著色劑。其染料及顏料的功能已大部分被合成茜素所取代。用於染料及色澱的製備。

英文....	A natural organic colorant extracted from the roots of any of several species of the genus Rubia, having a reddish color. Madder has been used as a colorant for dyeing textiles since ancient times in India, Persia, and Egypt. It has been largely replaced as a dye and a pigment by synthetic alizarin. Used for dye and lake pigment preparation.
荷蘭語....	Een rode, natuurlijke organische kleurstof, die ook als substraatpigment wordt gebruikt en wordt verkregen uit de wortel van de meekrapplant, Rubia tinctorum, en uit verschillende andere planten; het belangrijkste kleurcomponent is alizarine. Als verfstof en pigment grotendeels vervangen door synthetisch alizarine.
西班牙語....	Colorante orgánico natural rojo, también utilizado como pigmento de laca, extraído de la raíz de la rubia o alizarí, Rubia tinctorum, y varias otras plantas. Su principal componente colorante es la alizarina. Ampliamente reemplazado como colorante o pigmento por la alizarina sintética.
