Refers to painting, sculpture, graphic arts, and architecture dating from the late 19th century to the present date and characterized by a rejection of traditional artistic forms and conventions. It typically reflects changing social, economic, and intellectual conditions. Modern art includes numerous movements and theories. It differs from contemporary art, which does not carry the implication of a non-traditional style, but instead refers only to the time period in which the work was created. 'Modern' and 'contemporary' are inherently fluid terms. The term 'modern' sometimes more narrowly refers to art up until the 1960s or 1970s.

Dutch....	Verwijst naar schilderkunst, beeldhouwwerken, grafische kunst en architectuur vanaf het einde van de 19de eeuw tot aan nu, die wordt gekenmerkt door een afwijzing van traditionele kunstvormen en conventies. De moderne kunst vormt een afspiegeling van veranderende maatschappelijke, economische en intellectuele omstandigheden. De moderne kunst omvat tal van stromingen en theorieën. Het verschil met hedendaagse kunst is dat deze niet de betekenis van een niet-traditionele stijl in zich draagt, maar slechts verwijst naar de periode waarin een werk is vervaardigd. De begrippen 'modern' en 'hedendaags' zijn impliciet aan verandering onderhevig. De term 'modern' verwijst soms in meer specifieke zin naar kunst tot aan de jaren 60 of 70 van de 20ste eeuw.

Se refiere a la pintura, a la escultura, a las artes gráficas y a la arquitectura de fines del siglo XIX hasta el presente, se caracteriza por un rechazo de formas y de convenciones artísticas tradicionales. El cambio se ve reflejado por condiciones sociales, económicas, e intelectuales. El arte moderno incluye numerosas teorías y movimientos. Se diferencia del arte contemporáneo, que no implica un estilo no tradicional, sino que por el contrario se refiere solamente al período en el cual el trabajo fue creado.
Chinese (traditional)....	指從19世紀末葉至現在的繪畫、雕塑、平面藝術和建築，其特色是否定傳統藝術的形式和常規，特別反映出社會、經濟和知識的變動情況。現代藝術包括眾多的運動和理論，有別於當代藝術（contemporary art），後者不帶有非傳統風格的意涵，只指作品被創造的當下時代。「現代藝術」和「當代」是本質上難以界定的詞彙，有時「現代藝術」一詞會更狹義地指到1960年代或1970年代為止的藝術。
