自十七世紀後半開始至十八世紀早期，流行於法國的藝術理論，主張色彩較線條重要。

範圍註(ASCDC)：

魯本斯風格泛指十七世紀巴洛克(Baroque)的法蘭德斯(Flemish)畫風，巴洛克畫家尚有魯本斯、林布蘭特(Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn，1606-1669)、委拉茲貴斯 (DiegoVelazquez，1599 ~ 1660)、維梅爾(Johan Vermeer，1632-1675)等。魯本斯風格與普桑主義的主張正相反，強調以色彩塗繪景物，弱化線條與輪廓的作用，並加強畫中景物、姿態、光影、構圖的動態感。魯本斯(Peter Paul Rubens 1577–1640)畫作《馬車墜落 The Fall of Phaeton》, c. 1604/1605, probably reworked c. 1606/1608，Oil on canvas, 98.4 × 131.2 cm (38 3/4 × 51 5/8 in.)，National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C. ，如圖一。
